Anyone participating in the ecochallenge has the fun, though especially challenging, option of coming up with your own ideas on how to decrease your ecological footprint – in each of the areas we’ve looked at (water, food, transportation, energy, stuff). For some people who already do a lot of the suggestions in the booklet, this may be the only way to challenge themselves in a particular area. One student (and his mom) came up with trying to grow new plants from what is normally compost (pineapple top, mango seed), as well as starting their own window ledge herb garden. What great ideas! And what a great thing to take away from this challenge – fresh herbs throughout the year.
