The students at Kootenay Orchards and Kimberley Independent school, experienced first hand how challenging it would be to clean up after a oil spill. During the lesson on Water, students were tasked with a challenge to clean the oil from water in a pie tray. The students were given only a popsicle stick, paper towel and a small sheet of tin foil. Various methods were attempted by groups but it was pretty messy. Students commenting on the challenges of the task at hand but the determination was abundant!! The lesson reinforced the reality, that it is extremely difficult to clean up after an oil spill and the impacts are very damaging to the water quality and all that live in and depend upon it for survival. A powerful lesson indeed. Great attempt, Eco Stewards!!
