In-Class Recycling Depot

Posted on

Have you ever worked at a recycling depot? Mrs. Reinarz’s gr 5/6’s can now say they have. After learning all about the waste in our world and how it’s changed over time, the students got to try their own hands at reducing what ends up in the landfill.

Making your own recycling depot isn’t as hard as it might sound. We used old scrap paper and water to make new paper. First, it goes into the blender to make a smoothie-like consistency, then it’s filtered through a screen and shaped. Mrs. Reinarz’s class got creative with their recycled paper, making all kinds of shapes and sizes.

The students loved this hands-on activity. Everyone was engaged, helping each other and many students kept asking to make more!
