The History of Waste (a.k.a. Trash Through Time)

Posted on

Beyond Recycling is back in Mrs. Hendry’s class for the year. The program started off by taking a trip through time to see how our waste production has changed over time – both what waste we create, and how much. We went as far back as the cave people who, while they created waste, basically only created waste that the Earth could recycle. Visiting a pre-historic farmer, an ancient Greek (pictured here), a miner from the Industrial Revolution, as well as a visitor from the mid-1900’s, sure gave us a broad overview of just how much more waste we’ve created over time, and just how much more of a variety of garbage, including tricky-to-manage stuff, there now is.
