Today at Kinnaird Elementary, Ms. Landis’ Grade 4 class played an active role in recycling- they made their own paper using material from their recycling bin! Five teams worked together to create homemade paper in various shades- we saw blue paper, yellow paper, pink paper and various shades of grey depending on the bits of paper used to make pulp. We spent two hours blending, scooping, squeezing and rolling pulp into new paper! It was a lot of work, but lots of fun as well and it taught us a lot about "Closing the Loop". Rather than cutting down trees to create single-use paper, we all agreed that recycling the paper would keep those resources "cycling". Reusing resources again and again is always better than throwing them in the trash!
