Beyond Recycling is a program all about choices and learning that the choices we make everyday can have an impact on the world around us. Sometimes that impact is negative, but sometimes it can be very positive! The Beyond Recycling class at Kinnaird Elementary decided a fitting way to end our program was to take a positive eco-action as a class. Each student planted a sunflower seed to grow in the classroom over the next couple of weeks. Once they have grown into strong little seedlings, the students will take the sunflowers home to plant in their yards. The students agreed that this activity would help get them outside and spending more time in their yards as they watch the sunflowers grow. In addition to making their yard a more beautiful place, the sunflowers will also attract bees and beneficial insects to the garden! In a small way, the sunflowers will even help us grow some of our own food! This was yet another fun way of putting our Beyond Recycling lessons into action.
