In celebration of Earth Day, students in Ms. Elias’ Gr 4/5 and in Mrs. Evdokimoff’s Gr 5/6 classes created inspiring artwork created entirely out of scraps that would have otherwise been thrown away. Each student chose a positive eco-action as their theme and then collected bits of garbage and recycling to turn into a collage. Very quickly, students were seeing value in the garbage can. Shiny granola bar wrappers and interesting scraps of plastic packaging became hot commodities! These bits of garbage found a new life through art. We had posters depicting hanging clothes to dry, picking up litter and conserving water. Once complete, students hung their masterpieces in the school to inspire other teachers and students on Earth Day!
