Water; lets be grateful!

Posted on

Grade 4/5 students at Robson Community School participated in the Our Water lesson and were shocked to learn about the different water realities for people across our globe. Its amazing how WE have such consistent access to clean, fresh, cold (or hot) water in our homes and schools. Why, and How? These are just a few topics that we covered at the start of this lesson, then we ventured outside on a beautiful day to do an investigation around Water Scarcity AND Economic Water Scarcity. Six “villages” experienced the challenge on how to decide on where to use the water that they can access OR how to make do with the little water they can find and collect. Students literally had to travel a distance and collect “dirty water” while burdened with heavy bags to simulate what many people do everyday for their water needs. Agriculture, industry, and domestic water use may vary in different regions, however, we learned how our access to clean safe water is often taken for granted and how we should show more gratitude for this resource. Beyond Recycling students now have a better understanding of global water issues, in relation to our water situation here in British Columbia.
