Waste Through Time

Posted on

Did you know that cavemen produced no waste at all? And that today we produce an average of 2.1kg of waste per person per day!?! That’s as much as a stack of field guide books – every day! What a difference a little time can make.

Mr. Mac’s class made this discovery by dressing up as historical characters including a cave man, an ancient farmer, an ancient Greek, someone from the industrial revolution, and the mid-1900’s. They learned about the types of waste were produced in each era and how it was managed. The differences really got the class thinking about why we produce so much waste in todays’ world, and what we as students, can do about it. Hmm… perhaps a waste reduction challenge is in order!
