Larry the Garbologist visited two Beyond Recycling classrooms to help do waste inventories. Some of the surprising things that Larry found in the classroom’s garbage cans were food waste and items that could be recycled. This inspired one of the classes to set up a compost bin in their classroom. The classes discussed how to prevent food waste (like by eating a full apple or taking it home if not hungry enough to eat the full apple) and how some things (like granola bar wrappers and pudding cups) could be taken home to be recycled in their blue bins or at the recycling depots. Larry’s chickens enjoyed the pizza crusts and partially eaten apple cores.
