Mrs. Spensely/Ms. Gibbard’s gr 5/6 class had the opportunity before spring break to do a project for the Earth, as a celebration of what they’ve been learning in Beyond Recycling. This class is big into art, so we decided to make decorations for the new school garden.
In small groups, the students designed and decorated wooden cut outs of the 6 Cedars. Some groups replicated the traditional Indigenous patterns on the 6 Cedar class posters, while others made their own drawings related nature and gardening.
In addition to this, Ms. Gibbard led a small sewing activity, to support the class litter-less lunch challenges: sewing their own snack bags! A cool life skill, a hands-on class project, and a tool for reducing waste all in one!
