After considering the typical life cycle of paper, students in Ms. Elias’ Gr.4/5 class at Twin Rivers got a chance to make their very own paper! With a pile of paper scraps from classroom recycling bins and a whole lot of enthusiasm, the class got to work blending, squeezing, and rolling pulp into paper. By the end of the fun-filled class, we ended up with beautiful recycled paper in all sorts of colours and shapes. The class appreciated the fact that their beautiful paper was 100% recycled, meaning no new raw materials had to be extracted from the forests. The class ended with a discussion about the impacts associated with traditional paper making and the ways we can conserve paper and use less!
