Ever plugged in your toaster and wondered how electricity gets to your outlet? Frank J Mitchell students spent the morning exploring just that. From solar panels to wind turbines to hydroelectric dams, we discovered that there are a TON of different ways to generate electricity!
Using scaled-down generators we generated electricity right in the classroom using sun, wind and water! We were able to see the pros and cons of each as we prepped for our upcoming debate on energy sources. We questioned what impacts each would have and if they would be different when scaled up to provide power for a city. Students came up with lots of interesting questions to research. And how about from the power source to our houses? We traced our electricity through power lines, substations and fuse boxes right to the warm toaster. Think about THAT next time you have your PB&J in the morning!
