Grade 5/6 students from Mr. Dustin Winzer’s class at Valemount Elementary School discovered the origins of many familiar products. Looking at raw materials, they attempted to determine what could be manufactured. Jeans, aluminum cans, glass jars, batteries, soccer balls and pencils were the products they did further research on to become the experts and teach the rest of their class. After looking closely at product lifecycles including raw material extraction, production, distribution, consumption and disposal and the impacts at each stage students prepared a presentation. The presentations came in many different forms including: power point slide shows, skits, and posters. Some also came in costume as the inventor of their product. Everyone really enjoyed finding out more about these every day products.
