Lifecycle of Everyday Items

Posted on

We broke into small groups of three students and picked a product. We studied about where it was made, what it was made of, the environmental impacts the building of the product had and what happens to it after it is used. We were surprised by the number of places the ingredients (materials) had to come from- we marked them on a world map. So many items damage the earth with environmental impacts like emissions from burning fossil fuels, effluents, mining and clear cuts! The products we looked at were light bulbs, pencils, aluminum cans, cds, cell phones and soccer balls. Written by Michaela and Blewett School Grade 4/5
