Students in Mrs Julie’s grade 6 class had an opportunity to get messy and have fun while learning to make paper from recycled materials. Students were up for the challenge and rolled up their sleeves to get to work. Students were divided into stations, from paper ripping, pulp blending, water extraction, flattening and rolling. Needless to say, there was plenty of laughing, creating and chatter. The students made over 30 pieces of paper in only an hour. They also recognized how much water and potentially chemicals can go into making paper and how important it is to conserve and use less. Students plan to use the paper they created in a texture art piece and for book marks.
