Making it New

This creative group got to work for Earth Day. Waste has certainly been a focus in Mrs. Doll’s class all year, and to put their learning into action, the students made mittens out of old sweaters.

Using second hand wool and fleece sweaters from the thrift stores, students started by cutting out their patterns. Once they had 4 sets of material – for two double layered mittens – they got down to work sewing. Hand stitching took a lot of time and focused energy, but what great results! Now, every student in the class can now say they’ve reduced the waste headed to the landfill in a creative way.
