Let’s learn about Our Energy:
- Energy is the ability to do work or make change.
- Energy is in everything. All processes on Earth use energy.
- Humans use energy to carve turns on a snowboard or skis, pedal on a bike or to finish our homework. We also use energy to play computer games, cook a meal, or talk on a cell phone.
Activity
Choose one of the engaging activities below to take action:
- Love Letter: Write a letter to the Earth to say thank you for all the resources you use to create energy for your body, your home, and your activities!
- Burn some energy: Go for a bike, fast walk, run or do your favorite exercises in the backyard and while you do it, think about the food, the sun, the energy or resources needed to make your clothes or equipment that made this possible.

- Why is energy important to you? E.g Without energy I cannot ride my bike and I love biking!
- Do you think that you could create electricity from your body power? What would be the best way?
- What thing in your house do you think uses the most energy and why? Look up online which devices use the most power.

- Read: Energy Lab for Kids: 40 Exciting Experiments to Explore, Create, Harness, and Unleash Energy by Emily Hawbaker. This book enables the user to engage in simple scientific experiments using materials found in your home or at a grocery store.
- Watch: Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind by Studio Ghibli. This animated movie from the Japanese arthouse Ghibli explores the effects of nuclear energy and effects of upsetting the balance of ecosystems. It is fun to watch but with powerful messages within.
